It is best to work with heavy paper or cardstock, but it is easy to adapt to other types of material. Almost any hand embroidery pattern or design can be stitched on plain or colored paper using basic embroidery stitches.
What kind of paper can I embroider on?
Any heavy weight paper (cardstock) will be fine. I’ve embroidered on several different kinds: paper from an artist’s water-color pad, short-fibered tagboard, and expensive hand-made paper. I’ve found the best results with heavy paper that has longer fibers. Look at the image to the right.
Can you hand embroider on cardstock?
Only use designs labeled as cardstock designs, or the embroidery may just cut the paper rather than sew onto it. … When using paper with shorter fibers (such as cardstock) the needle perforations will be more visible around the embroidery, but it will still work well.
